Civil Ceremonies

Civil marriages celebrated in Italy are recognised overseas and they are conducted in accordance with Italian regulation. Weddings conducted in Italy are automatically registered world-wide .

  • It is not possible to remarry each other legally in Italy if you have already married in your country although a blessing ceremony can take place.
  • Civil ceremonies by law must be performed in Town halls, villas and palaces officially approved by the Italian government. The venues are mainly indoor venues which include grandeur historical buildings, ex-churches, and the town halls premises. The Italian venues are elegantly decorated with famous paintings and sculptures making them the perfect setting for stylish wedding ceremonies.
  • Civil ceremonies conducted in outside assigned buildings are possible only in certain locations and only if permitted by Italian government.
  • Ceremony is performed by the Major or official substitute and is conducted in Italian
  • An official interpreter (for couples who do not speak Italian) and 2 witnesses over 18 are requested by law.
  • Ceremony lasts approximate 20 minutes
  • On request and subject to celebrant agreement and time available before the following wedding, the ceremony may be enriched with personal vows, readings and music
  • Depending on the marriage location you might be requested to sign in person a sworn declaration at the town hall few days prior the wedding (time vary depending on town hall and nationality)
  • Woman whose previous marriage is finished within the last 300 days cannot marry in Italy
